Autograph letter signed, dated : [n.p., Paris?], 17 June 1823, to Hector Berlioz, 1823, 17 June.

Replying to Berlioz's letter [in which Berlioz asked Andrieux to write an opera libretto for him], saying that what Berlioz proposes is not for a person of Andrieux's age, that Berlioz would think him a barbarian were Andrieux to tell him how long it had been since he set foot in the Opéra or the Feydeau, that to write love lyrics would ill become him--he ought to be thinking only of Requiems, expressing regret that Berlioz was not born forty years earlier or Andrieux forty years later: "Nous aurions pu travailler ensemble", etc.
