Explaining that he is writing for Mrs. Lewes [George Eliot] because she is unwell; discussing selections for a volume of "Thoughts and Sentences" from the works of George Eliot; suggesting that Main should "adopt some sort of classification of subjects"; asking for a photo of Main and enclosing a photo of himself (photo not included in this collection); noting that Mrs. Lewes "has not had [a photo] done of her -- her shrinking from publicity has made her refuse all overtures."
