Autograph letter signed, dated : Paris, 20 November 1824, to [Gaspare Spontini], 1824 Nov. 20.

Saying that he has received the few words that Spontini appended to Céleste's letter of 25 September, commenting on the sad state of the theatres, especially the Opéra, saying that [Peter] Winter's Sacrifice interrompu has just been given in the most absurdly mutilated manner, that the Théâtre Italien has been entirely given over to the "Rossiniades," that the young composers Auber and Hérold are already faithful imitators of the great model, further bemoaning the "degré de nullité" to which music has sunk in France, mentioning Weber's Freischütz, etc.
