Autograph letter signed, dated : Brussels, 11 January 1872, to "Belle et triomphante Diva" [i.e. Adelina Patti], 1872 Jan. 11.

Expressing regret that he cannot send New Year's gifts worthy of her but, "ayant donné mission à messieurs les dilettantis [sic] de Moscou de vous en offrir," he has heard from his friend Elkan that those gentlemen have acquitted themselves most graciously and generously, saying that no one is a prophet in his own land but that in his own he has not been permitted to put himself forward as a composer, but that the impresario in Brussels would be disposed to advance Duprez's career and to mount the "grand ouvrage" parts of which Patti has heard, saying that all he lacks is money, etc.
