Henri Antoine Jules-Bois was born in Marseilles, France. The year of his birth is variously given as 1868, 1869, or 1871, depending on the source. He was educated at the College of St. Ignatius, where he received his A.B. and B.Sc. degrees, at the Collège de France, where he was granted the Litt.D, and at the Sorbonne, where he earned a Ph.D. Jules-Bois' interests were wide-ranging.
