Letters, telegrams and soundscribers concerning: Malcolm Muggeridge--his Maclean's article defaming Lord Beaverbrook, Wardell's reply to the article {81916-81917} that appeared in the Atlantic Advocate (Nov. 1963), Wardell's hope that Beaverbrook will sue Maclean's and Muggeridge; Beaverbrook Art Gallery--controversy in setting the re-opening date of the gallery, exhibitions including the McCord Exhibition which was subsequently cancelled, roof problems, Beaverbrook's desire that all plates, engravings and colour transparencies in Wardell's possession be turned over to the art gallery on the condition that they would be handed over to Wardell for his use upon request and the Atlantic Advocate piece on Sir Alec Martin's role in securing the Carleton miniatures for the gallery; Beaverbrook's offer to give Wardell 25,000 dollars now and cancel the bequest in his will. Brief mention is made of J.W. McConnell's death.

Michael Wardell joined the Beaverbrook newspapers in London in 1926 after a career in the military. With the outbreak of the Second World War he rejoined the army and finally retired with the rank of Brigadier in 1946. He returned to Fleet Street and eventually became vice-chairman to the Beaverbrook organization. In 1950 he came to Fredericton and bought the Daily Gleaner.
