Letters, soundscribers, memos, drawings, sketches and photographs related primarily to the establishment of The Enclosure (Newcastle, N.B.) and the erection of a monument there to the early Miramichi settlers. The file discusses: Lord Beaverbrook's plans for the Enclosure, the acquisition of properties located at or near Wilson's Point and of the St. James United Church Cemetary for the project; Beaverbrook's failed bid to have the graveyard designated a national historic site; his gift of the Wilson Point properties to the New Brunswick government and the conditions of transfer; the purchase, design and shipment of iron gates for The Enclosure; the design and construction of the monument; the design and inscription on the graveyard plaque; the selection of trees for the aboretum and their labels (CONTINUES). (CONTINUED) as well as the selection of candidates for overseas scholarships and the proposed repressing of Dr. A.F. Baird's R.C.A. Victor recordings of New Brunswick folk-songs. Also contained in the file are working drawings of the monument and plaque, sketches and photographs of possible gates for the project, a list of the native trees of New Brunswick and a lengthy memo on the history of Apethorpe Hall.
