Thomas Frognall Dibdin was born in Calcutta, and orphaned at a young age; he was raised by relatives in England, and educated at Oxford. He trained to practice law, but took holy orders instead. George Soane was an English dramatist who, in addition to his own plays, translated or adapted the works of other authors and dramatized several novels and short stories.
