S. Griffitts Morgan acted as supercargo on the clipper ships, Flying Cloud, John Jay, Sea Serpent, and St. Lawrence, and sold a great variety of goods in San Francisco in the gold rush days. Many of these commodities were consigned to him by Grinnell, Minturn and Company of New York; he also did business with Hathaway, New York, Donald McKay, Boston, Nye, Perkins and Company, China and Charles W. Morgan, New Bedford. The collection includes waste books, journal, ledger, invoice books, letter books, 1850-1853, cargo books, and unbound papers.
