Kuter collection, 1927-1979.

An extensive collection of correspondence, speeches and addresses, printed matter, manuscripts, portraits, diaries, biographies, and fifty-one, bound scrapbooks (47 cm x 43 cm) containing photos, news clippings, correspondence, and memorabilia from Kuter's military career and personal life from 1927-1963. Significant correspondence relates to Kuter's involvement in the development of air doctrine and air power during the war and his role as the Army Air Forces representative to the Yalta Conference, 1945. A copy of his book "Airman at Yalta" describing Kuter's experiences before and after the conference is included with the collection.

A 1927 West Point graduate, Laurence Kuter transferred to the Air Corps in 1930. In 1941 he was one of the principal authors of the basic plan for employment of air power in World War II and he then took command of a bomber wing in England. After tours of duty in North Africa, Washington, D.C. and the Pacific Ocean Area, Kuter was promoted to major general.
