Crosby family papers, 1870-1929.

Mostly correspondence of the Crosby family of New York City and New Jersey, particularly of Mary Leavitt Crosby, Henry A. Crosby, Sr., and their children John P., Sheldon L., Beatrice W.C. de Menocal, Josephine M.A.C. Forbes, and Henry A. Crosby, Jr. Includes letters from other Leavitt and Sheldon family members. Correspondence (1894-97) includes descriptions of family life and children's activities in Dresden, Germany and reflects serious marital discord between Henry A. and Mary L. Crosby. Letters (1913-29) written by Sheldon L. describe his duties at diplomatic posts in London, Rome, Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul, and other places. Letters from Allan Forbes (from 1919) concern family finances. The collection also contains a few letters (1913) written by Beatrice from China where she lived for a few years with her husband; and (1924) by Mary when she was staying in Paris. There are brief letters by Theodore Roosevelt (1918) and Charles L. Slattery (1922) to Mary L. Crosby.
