Marc Kaminsky was born in New York City in 1943. He attended Columbia University, earning his B.A. in 1964 and his M.A. in 1967. He earned an M.S.W. from the Hunter College School of Social Work in 1978. Between 1972 and 1977, Kaminsky worked for the the Jewish Association for Services for the Aged (JASA), where he was director of the West Side Senior Center.
