Personal and family papers of Hallum W. Goodloe, including correspondence, accounts, genealogical data, legal documents, clippings and articles on historical events and figures, business records, scrapbooks, photographs, and maps. Correspondence forms the largest portion of the collection. Family letters have been arranged separately; the principal correspondents in this section are Mirian Goodloe George, Mary Goodloe Hart, Mary Tatum DeBose, and Gussie King Goodloe. Much of the general correspondence gives insights into Tennessee's political life and personalities. Correspondents include J.B. Avery, R.L. Bynum, Newton Cannon, Jr., John Connell, Prentice Cooper, E.H. Crump, W.W. Faw, Stanley Horn, Cordell Hull, James R. Jetton, John Trotwood Moore, Hill McAlister, E.E. Patton, and Tom C. Rye. Other papers include a diary (1863-1864) of Caswell A. Goodloe which is chiefly an account of church and social events in Crockett County, Tenn., although the presence of Federal troops is mentioned; masonic papers of Hallum Goodloe; and papers of Hallum Goodloe's daughter, Isobel Goodloe Dunning.
