The SIO Public Affairs Office was established in the early 1950's and was headed by Thomas A. Manar. He was succeeded by Nelson Fuller, who directed the office from 1965 to 1978. Fuller was succeeded by his assistant Jacqueline Parker, who retired in 1991. This accession includes the records of the Public Affairs Office, renamed the Public Information Office, from 1954 to 1991, and includes the files of its three directors during the period, Thomas A. Manar, Nelson Fuller and Jacqueline Parker. The records include press releases, newspaper clippings, correspondence, photographs, subject files, notes and other material documenting the work of the office. The files are divided into six series: Biographical Files, Correspondence, Press Releases, Subject Files, Visitors and SIO/UCSD Daily Media Logs.
