Daughter of Guy M. Bryan and Laura Jack and grandniece of Steohen F. Austin, Hally Bryan Perry was born and reared in Galveston, Texas. After attending Hollins College in Virginia, she and her cousin Bettiy Ballinger, daughter of William Pitt Ballinger, founded the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (1891). Guy Morrison Bryan, a nephew of Stephen F. Austin, was a Confederate officer and legislator. He was born in 1821 in Heraculaneum, Missouri, to James Bryan and Emily Bryan, daughter of Moses Austin and sister of Stephen F. Austin. Edmund Duncan Montgomery, physician, philosopher, and scientist, was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on March 18, 1835 and died at Liendo Plantation near Hempstead, Texas on April 17, 1911. He was the son of Isabella Davidson Montgomery and Duncan MacNeill, an eminent Scottish jurist.
