Excerpts from a letter addressed by Viceroy Velasco to the King of Spain, reporting an attack by four French vessels upon the port of Caballos, Honduras, describing the measures taken and contemplated for the defense of New Spain against further attacks, summarizing the preparations for the settlement of Santa Elena (Port Royal, South Carolina?) and other points in sixteenth-century Florida, and referring briefly to plans for Zacatecas and Copala. Bound with the above is an anonymous report, (2 pp.), "Avisos de la poderosa armada ..." 1575, regarding French preparations for an attack on Spanish possessions in the Indies.

He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area.
