Fair was living in Chicago, Ill. when the news of the Calif. gold discovery reached that city. He immediately made plans to terminate his affairs and leave for Calif. His knowledge of placer and quartz mining made him a well-to-do mine and mill owner. In association with Flood, Mackay, and O'Brien, he became a developer of the silver deposits known as the Comstock Lode. Fair served in the U.S. Senate from 1881 to 1887. Ezekial Thatcher was clerk of the Parkville School District, Shasta County, Calif. He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area. He is descended from the Thatchers of Uffington, England, the same family as Denis Thatcher, husband of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. From the description of H.H.
