William Chapman Ralston, San Francisco businessman and financier, was born in Plymouth, Ohio, in 1826. He arrived in San Francisco in 1854, and ten years later, when he organized the Bank of California, he became one of the most important and powerful men in California. Ezekial Thatcher was clerk of the Parkville School District, Shasta County, Calif. He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area.
