Huey Long Pierce, Louisiana governor and United States senator, was born 30 August 1893, near Winnfield, Winn Parish, Louisiana, and died 10 September 1935. He studied law and practiced in Winnfield after 1915; served as Louisiana public service commissioner (1921-1926); was elected governor of Louisiana (1928); was elected to the United States Senate (1930); and organized the Share-Our-Wealth Society (1934) for which he had national support. John Holmes Overton graduated from Louisiana State University (1895) and from the law department of Tulane University (1897). He was admitted to the bar in 1898, practiced law in Alexandria, La., and was a member of the board of supervisors of Louisiana State University.
