Gabriel Shaw letters, 1802 June 22.

Letters from Gabriel Shaw, New York merchant, to William Meredith, a relative of his servant Caesar, a free black, who had accompanied him to New Orleans. In New Orleans the servant was driven to insanity, a result of absence from his family and fear of the Louisiana climate. The first letter describes the effect of the South on a Northern black while the second seeks assistance for his servant en route home.
