Alan Dugald McKillop taught English at Rice University beginning in 1920, and retired in 1968 as Trustee Distinguished Professor of English. His interests included 18th century poetry and prose, and British novelist Samuel Richardson and poet James Thomson in particular. Born May 24, 1892 in Lynn, Massachusetts to Scottish parents, McKillop attended Harvard University, graduating summa cum laude in 1913 with a B.A. in philosophy.
