Consists of selected correspondence and documents of and about Jonathan Sergeant, his son Jonathan Dickinson Sergeant, and his grandson John Sergeant, the majority of which is related to the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University). There is also miscellaneous official or family related material of Charles Chauncey, Daniel Cox, John Ewing, Samuel Harvey, John Keen, William Montgomery, Aaron Musgrove, Charles Pettit, William Semple, Samuel Stanhope Smith, John Smyth, Job Stockton, and Henry Waddell.

Jonathan Dickinson Sergeant (1746 – October 8, 1793) was an American lawyer from Princeton, New Jersey. He represented New Jersey in the Second Continental Congress in 1776 and 1777. He later served as Attorney General for the state of Pennsylvania. Born in Newark in the Province of New Jersey, he moved with his parents to Princeton as a child.
