Records of the Office of Chancellor : Robert Burton House series, 1919-1957 (bulk 1940-1957).

Records include correspondence and other files relating to the administration of and academic programs at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Among these records are a few files dating from House's tenure as executive secretary, as well as some earlier items that were among these files. Because of the close relationship of Frank Porter Graham to the Chapel Hill campus, both before and after he became president of the Consolidated University of North Carolina in 1932, much of the material one might expect to find in the chancellor's records is actually in the president's records. Topics of particular importance addressed in these records include desegregation of the university; World War II and national defense (including numerous letters from former students serving in the military); and expansion of the School of Medicine and establishment of the university medical center.
