[Sketchbook]. [ca. 1840-1855]

A book of sketches by William Makepeace Thackeray, dating from approximately the 1840s and 1850s. Most sketches were drawn on other pieces of paper (sometimes on the back of other documents), then cut out and pasted into this volume. Drawings depict characters from Thackeray's works, including From Cairo to Cornhill, Vanity Fair, The Irish sketchbook and others. A later owner has labeled some images in pencil with the publication in which they were printed.

[57] leaves, bound : ca. 260 ink drawings ; 22 cm.
