The Horn Book Magazine and Horn Book, Inc. Records, 1899-1993, 1916-1993.

The records of the Horn Book Magazine and Horn Book Inc. document the development of the first magazine published with a concern for children's books and reading. The records also document the personal life of the magazine's founder, Bertha Mahony Miller (BMM), a graduate of Simmons College, and her influence on the field of children's literature. The records include office files, correspondence, illustrations, photographs, clippings and printed material related to the Bookshop for Boys and Girls (1916-36) (founded by BMM and operated under the auspices of the Women's Educational and Industrial Union), The Horn Book Magazine (1924-67) and The Horn Book, Inc. (1936-67). Correspondence among the editors of the magazine and numerous authors, illustrators, librarians, editors, publishers and educators document the field of children's literature from the early to mid-twentieth century.
