Keith Jerome Kvam was born in Milwaukee, Wis. on November 30, 1925. In 1943, he graduated from St. John's Military Academy, Delafield Wis., where he had been an honor student and Cadet Lieutenant Colonel. Kvam obtained an appointment to Officers Candidate School, receiving a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in August 1944 at the age of 18.
