Congressional records and private papers of Charles R. Jonas. His role as the highest-ranking North Carolina Republican, as a fiscal conservative on the House Appropriations Committee, and as representative for Charlotte, N.C., during that city's period of school desegregation through busing are reflected in the papers. The concerns and opinions of citizens of the southern piedmont of North Carolina, especially of Mecklenburg and Lincoln counties, and of some mountain counties, 1953-1973, are extensively represented in letters to their congressman.
