The records include materials apparently collected by DA Jim Garrison and his staff during their investigation of the Kennedy assassination; photocopies of portions of the court record in the case of Louisiana vs. Clay Shaw and other cases related to the investigation; correspondence files; and a file of miscellaneous material. The investigatory materials include files relating to Marlene Mancuso, Julius Oswald, and Perry Russo, as well as a photocopy of what appears to be the New Orleans Police Dept. file on the Fair Play for Cuba Committee. Included in the copies of court cases, in addition to portions of the Louisiana vs. Shaw proceedings, are documents relating to cases involving David Chandler, Thomas Bethell, Walter Sheridan, Kerry Thornley, and Richard Townley. The correspondence sub-series includes general correspondence of the DA's Office for the period as well as letters dealing specifically with the investigation and its aftermath. While many of the letters fall into the category of "fan mail" (from persons thanking/congratulating Garrison, etc.), there are also many of greater substance (e.g., a letter from Garrison to Shaw's defense attorney discussing details of the case, and Garrison's memo to one of his assistants regarding the David Ferrie autopsy). Correspondents include Marina [Oswald] Porter, Mrs. Marguerite Oswald, the Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation, Melvin Belli, and, generally, members of the news media and legal profession. In addition to this "general correspondence" there is also a sub-series of letters concerning the defense [by the law firm of Deutsch, Kerrigan, and Stiles] of Garrison's codefendants in the Shaw vs. Garrison, et al. case.
