Receipt books, 1759-1805.

Receipt books of Moses Grant, 1756-1805, including some receipts for payments made on behalf of his father Samuel. The receipts acknowledge payments made by Moses Grant to various people who whom he had dealings. Although many of receipts are for money "on account," others specify payment for feathers or paper. The receipts are signed by the person receiving the money.

Grant, Moses, 1744-1817

Samuel Grant (1705-1784) was an upholsterer in Boston, where he also served as town selectman and town moderator. He married Elizabeth Cookson in 1729, and they raised six children, including a son Moses (1744-1817). Moses followed his father into the upholstery trade but also became a wallpaper manufacturer, and was an important figure in the development of the New England wallpaper trade.
