[Letter], February 1782, Ashfield, Mass., [to] Josiah Talcott, Hancock, Mass. 1782.

Identified by Edward Andrews as "the earliest Shaker manuscript extant," this letter expresses, for the first time, the idea that a Shaker should give up all of his possessions to the order. See Dr. Andrews' discussion of the letter on page 48 of his book, The People called Shakers.
