Papers, 1847-1935, 1880-1915 (bulk).

Collection focuses on the daily life of members of the Craig families of Wilmington, Delaware, and Salem, New Jersey, particularly that of George Washington Craig of Salem. The bulk of the collection consists of receipts for land purchases, mortgages, taxes, water and sewer bills, construction expenses (building and adding onto houses), fire and life insurance policies, funerals, and medical receipts. There are almost sixty photographs and negatives, but none of the people are identified. Other items include two family letters, an obituary for Hester Craig, a dandelion wine recipe, Washington Craig's business license for his cigar store in Wilmington, a NAACP membership card for Bernard Craig, and a membership card for the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows.

George Washington Craig (d. 1889; called Washington) operated a cigar store in Wilmington, Delaware. His wife may have been the Hester Craig whose obituary is part of this collection. His son was also named George Washington Craig (called George); he and his wife Lavinia lived in Salem, New Jersey. George owned a store, and evidence suggests that he had several rental properties in Salem. George and Lavinia had nine children. After George's death, Lavinia married Moses Casper. From t...
