Household expense book, 1856-1874, 1863-1874 (bulk).

Household expense book which also records money received from the sale of mittens, from taking in boarders, interest, and the sale of agricultural products such as milk, eggs, potatoes, beans, apples, veal, and livestock. Purchases included coffee, tea, sugar, molasses, spices, whiskey and rum, tobacco, cloth and thread, books, soap, hats and bonnets, ox and horse shoes, and other assorted products. Services paid for include washing, medical visits, milling, fitting a dress, and making cider. The payment of taxes was recorded. At the end of the volume are listed several people, female and male, who "came here to work," and there is an account for Frank Carlton. A sheet of recipes was found in the volume. Several loose sheets of paper found in the volume had the name John Adams on them.
