Papers, 1767-1839.

Consists of two leaves from the Hewson family Bible recording births and deaths of children in England and America and John Hewson's will and estate records. His will lists the materials used the calico printing business and many home furnishings. Also included is a letter from Richard Dudding, a descendent of John Hewson, to his mother in which he relates news of his brother's trip to New Orleans.

John Hewson, his first wife, Mary, and their four oldest children emigrated from England to Philadelphia, Pa. in 1773 or 1774. Hewson set up shop as a calico printer in Kensington, Pa. after his arrival in America. Mary died shortly after the journey in 1774. Hewson remarried and he and his second wife, Zibiah, remained in the Kensington area until his death in 1821. From the description of Papers, 1767-1839. (Winterthur Library).
