Correspondence, printed material, writings, and LSU memorabilia comprise the Eugene M. Violette papers. Correspondence is of a professional nature reflecting Violette's association with the University, professional organizations, publishers, and colleagues. Printed items include newspapers and clippings related to Louisiana, football, World Wars I and II, and Huey Long's assassination. Imprints and publications pertain to a variety of topics including, early LSU history. Writings include drafts of conference papers, notes, short biographical sketches, and an incomplete manuscript describing Civil War experiences of the Dufur family. Memorabilia includes handbills, fliers, and programs concerning student politics, campus events, football, social functions, and religious organizations. Museum records consist of material collected by Eugene Violette in his capacity as director of the LSU Historical museum. These records include historical manuscripts, artifacts and cloth samples, and correspondence. Much of the correspondence concerns donors and the shipment of museum equipment. Notes, note cards, shipping documents related to museum equipment, and a survey of Confederate pensions (Feb. 1, 1933) comprise miscellaneous items. Among the historical papers are printed items, records documenting transfer of property in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana (1841-1881), legal documents, and an autobiography of James Starr (1889) reflecting 19th century life. Additionally, there are several photographs, mostly unidentified persons and buildings; however, photographs do include Abraham Lincoln (n.d.) and two New Orleans street scenes.
