University Budget Committee file, 1970-1988.

Description: The Budget Advisory Committee was established at Stout in 1971 at assist in the preparation of budgets. Six years later its name was changed to the University Budget Committee and its purpose was expanded to create a mechanism for providing faculty consultations in the budget process. The committee was primarily involved with broad university wide budget policy concerns and allocations at the divisional level. Members of the committee included the Vice Chancellor, Assistant Chancellor for Administrative Services, Dean of Students, a Chancellor's Office Representative, and four faculty members. Until 1989, the committee worked with the Budget and Financial Services Office. In the same year, the University Budget Committee, along with the Thrusts Development Committee, were replaced by the Strategic Planning Committee.

Agency history: In the early years of Stout, the Business Manager or Business Office had responsibility for all financial, budgeting, and business affairs of the institution. As Stout grew, these responsibilities also grew dramatically so that in 1964 the Business Affairs division was established with separate offices of Accounting and Purchasing.
