British Columbia sketches : Victoria, British Columbia, 1878.

Biographical sketches of Herbert George Lewis, Michel Muir, and William John Macdonald. Lewis came to Victoria in 1848 and served the Hudson's Bay Company along the Northwest Coast afterward. Muir arrived at Victoria a year later with his father and was involved in coal enterprises. Macdonald came out from Scotland in 1851 and remained eight years in the Company's services. He relates experiences on San Juan Island the first year, and remarks on the controversy over the island.
