The Thomas G. Miller collection, 1916-1919.

Contains photocopied personal correspondence of the following airmen who participated in World War I: Lt. Penrose Vass Stout of 27th Aero Squadron (1917-1919), Paul N. Montague (1918) and Lt. Sumner Sewall (1917-18) both of the 95th Aero Squadron. The following manuscripts are found: HISTORY OF 95TH AERO SQUADRON (n.d.); WAR LETTERS OF ARTHUR HADDEN ALEXANDER, 1917-1918 compiled by his mother (n.d.); LET'S GO WHERE THE ACTION IS! : LETTERS OF DOUGLAS CAMPBELL TO HIS PARENTS, JULY 22, 1917 TO JULY 12, 1918 (n.d.) and JOURNAL DES MARCHES ET OPERATIONS ESCADRILLE N. 124 PENDANT LA CAMPAGNE (1916-1917) which gives names of pilots, information on their flight missions and portraits of American members.

Thomas H.E. Miller (1920- ) has worked as a successful visual artist as well as a graphic designer. While stationed abroad during World War II, Miller sold oil paintings in England, France, and Belgium. He was known for using the monotype technique, a subtractive technique in which pigment is removed from paint-coated glass. After World War II, Miller moved to Chicago where he formally studied art for the first time at the Ray Vogue School of Art. He received his degree in design in 1950. Also i...
