Dawson went to California from Arkansas in 1853, lived at Rough and Ready, Nevada County, till 1855; later cattle-trailed to and from Texas; served in the Texas Rangers; was active in the cattle business in Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming.

Ezekial Thatcher was clerk of the Parkville School District, Shasta County, Calif. He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area.
