Wheat was an historian of California and the American West with a particular interest in early maps of the region. He was also a collector of books and manuscripts, a founder of the Roxburghe Club of San Francisco, and an active member of E Clampus Vitus, the Bohemian Club, and the Zamarano Club. Ezekial Thatcher was clerk of the Parkville School District, Shasta County, Calif. He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area. He is descended from the Thatchers of Uffington, England, the same family as Denis Thatcher, husband of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. From the description of H.H.
