A history of the Virgin of Guadalupe prepared to counteract the irreligious implications of the account written by José Ignacio Bartolache, Mexico City, 1790. Contains a prologue, historical introduction, and nine chapters dealing with Cortés' devotion to Our Lady, the miraculous appearances of the Virgin of Guadalupe, characteristics of the painting, written and oral sources of the legend, and the recognition accorded to it in various countries. Practically identical with the printed edition published in Mexico, 1852-1853, under the title given above.

Ezekial Thatcher was clerk of the Parkville School District, Shasta County, Calif. He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area.
