Loren Carey MacKinney was a professor of medieval history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1930 until his death in 1963. MacKinney was born in Minnesota and received degrees from Lawrence College and the University of Chicago. He taught at eight colleges and universities before coming to UNC-Chapel Hill, and was regarded as an authority on the history of medieval medicine.
