Caroline Swain Long record book, 1858-1860 [manuscript].

A personal record book kept by Caroline Swain Long, 1858-1860, while whe was living in Athens, Ga. An elegy for Long's daughter, Ellen (Ella) Rosetta, who died 1 July 1859, is the main entry in the book. Crawford Long, a Georgia native, received his education at Franklin College (University of Georgia). He completed his medical training at the University of Pennsylvania in 1839. After a short time in New York, Dr. Long returned to Georgia and spent his entire career there as a physician and surgeon.
