The collection contains ten letters, including seven, 1869-1870, from Robert Hart Rountree, New Bern, N.C., and New York City, to his brother, Francis Marion Rountree, Hookerton, Greene County, N.C. These letters deal primarily with financial matters, especially sales on the local and national cotton markets. Also included are one letter, 1884, from a medical colleague of Francis Marion Rountree describing a treatment for diarrhea, one undated letter to Francis Marion Rountree, which includes a recipe for Osborns Soup, and one letter, 1966, from George Rountree Junior, a great-nephew of Francis Marion Rountree, to Albert W. Cowper. An enclosure with the 1966 letter is a photocopy of a letter, 1924, from George Rountree, Sr., to his son, George Rountree Jr., giving advice about college life.
