Reference letters concerning the Prince Edward County desegretation suit [manuscript], 1951.

The collection contains a letter from Joe Carter, 1951 July 10, of the firm of Hunton, Williams, Anderson, Gay & Moor to Roy Land, Alderman Library, requesting the loan of three books needed for the firm's research work as well as a "short list of available books on segregation in the schools, its consequences, etc." The letter is annotated with the call numbers of the requested titles and a note as to when they were sent. Reference librarian N. Harvey Deal responds that "there are no such books listed on that exact subject here" but that there are many articles in periodicals. He notes that "the question of consequences, as such, to the best of our knowledge, has not been sufficiently recorded to be listed in any of our bibliographical sources."
