ALS, 1844 December 17 : Washington City (i.e. D.C.) to John A. Rogers.

Congress will probably postpone vote on the annexation of Texas. President Jones of Texas opposes annexation, but Pres. Polk will probably go for the measure once he is in office. Rogers believes U.S. would have a war with Mexico if Texas is annexed. Is considering purchasing land in Mexico.
