John H. Carson papers, 1854-1976.

Papers are comprised of two manuscript volumes; volume one, a personal narrative (1863) recounting his experiences in Louisiana during the Civil War, with references to skirmishes, casualties, execution of prisoners, and the march through Louisiana; volume two, a record book (1854-1860) with a list of expenses incurred during his move to Texas. Other items include his parole certificate (July 24, 1865); and a photograph taken with his wife, Elizabeth (1890). Also among the papers is a photocopy of a document (1909) giving a short history and list of officers of Crumps Regiment, Texas Cavalry, known earlier as Lane's Regiment, and originally organized as the Texas Partisan Rangers. A single issue of the JEFFERSON JIMPLECUTE (Nov. 25, 1976) gives a biographical account of John H. Carson's life.
