Political papers of Currie, Democratic state senator representing the 11th District (Durham, Orange, and Person counties), and chairman of the Committee on Public Health, 1971-1972. Included are correspondence, brochures, and other papers relating to the 1971 session of the North Carolina General Assembly. About half of the collection consists of letters received from constituents regarding abortion legislation.

Claude Currie was a Democratic state senator of Durham, N.C. Currie was born in Montgomery County, N.C., and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He first served as state senator in 1927 and subsequently served 1945-1972, excepting the 1951 session. In 1971 Currie represented the 11th District, composed of Durham, Orange, and Person counties, and he was chairman of the senate Committee on Public Health.
