The accession is the central IMR office files for the period 1971-1990, encompassing the directorships of John Isaacs, Fred Noel Spiess and William Fenical. The accession also includes some folders of earlier material dated 1953-1970, which largely concerns IMR history and the Marine Life Research Program. The accession documents all aspects of the administration and operation of the Institute of Marine Resources. It includes records of the IMR Advisory Council, 1975-1990, records of the IMR Executive Committee, 1972-1990, Annual reports of IMR, IMR chronological files 1980-1990, records of the California Sea Grant Program, correspondence of the Marine Life Research Program dated 1955 to 1971 and budgetary material and subject files. The subject files are arranged alphabetically and include files on IMR students, research programs, operation of R/V John Isaacs, the State Water Resources Control Board and interaction between IMR and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The accession includes a history of IMR, a manuscript of Daniel Behrman's biography of John Isaacs, records of the Old Scripps Building Committee and the SIO Scripps Heritage Committee.
