Papers are comprised of sermons, essays, notebooks, and correspondence of Charles B. Dana and family. Papers after 1880 are those of Rev. Charles Dana's sons, Charles B. and Richard H. C. Dana, and of Richard H. C. Dana's guardian, Miss Octavia Dockery of Glenwood Plantation "Goat Castle", Natchez, Miss. Correspondence in general reflects religious activities, expressing concern over sabbath schools, church attendance, and the spread of Catholicism. Family matters, local events, literature, politics, education and slavery, and genealogical information relative to the Dana family are also discussed. A letter of S. A. Kimball of Concord, N. H., discusses the abolitionist movement and members of the Colonization Society (1836). Also among the papers are checks of Richard Dana, bank statements of Octavia Dockery, newspaper clippings, maps, photographs, and a broadside listing officers of the Colonization Society of Virginia. Manuscript volumes are comprised of a diary (1906-1907), cashbooks, registers, sermons, and notebooks. Included in the printed materials are religious pamphlets and journals. Collection also contains two postcard albums (1906-1933, n.d.).
