Diaries, 1748-1794.

Interleaved almanacs kept by Dr. Cotton Tufts of Weymouth, Mass. for the years 1748, 63-72, 78, 83-84, 87, and 93-94. The line-a-day entries note daily weather, including wind direction and temperature; visits to other local towns, most notably Boston, Braintree, and Bridgewater; preaching heard; and news of family and acquaintances. Also included are personal accounts (with the exception of 1748), including annual taxes for some years. The diary for 1748 was kept while Tufts was a student at Harvard (Class of 1749) and notes lectures and preaching attended. The entries contain little substantive information on Tufts's medical practice or his role in local politics.
